The Champions Indoor Football League board of directors is pleased to announce an expansion team located in Topeka, Kansas for the upcoming 2022 season. With the addition of the new expansion team, it brings the total number of teams in the CIF to nine for the upcoming season. Teams will be based in Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming & Montana.

JR Bond, owner of the new Topeka franchise, shared the following comments. “We’re excited to bring professional football to the capital city of Kansas. The Champions Indoor Football league will bring an exciting and fast paced game to the Stormont Vail Events Center,” said Bond. “With multiple franchises in the state of Kansas (Dodge City, Salina & Wichita), and in neighboring states, we see a mechanism for helping increase tourism within the City of Topeka as visiting fans come to games. We are also excited to be providing the residents of Topeka an affordable entertainment offering. We’re definitely excited to call Topeka home!”

“JR is the perfect kind of team owner and operator that we look for when placing a new expansion franchise within the CIF, especially with his extensive background in multiple sports businesses”, states CIF Interim-Commissioner Ricky Bertz. “JR and his team have been working on bringing a franchise to Topeka for nearly a year,” Bertz said. “The CIF is excited to make this announcement, and will be making another expansion announcement this week, as we prepare for our league meetings this weekend. Topeka will be involved in shaping the direction and future of the CIF and we couldn’t more excited announcing them into the league today”.

The Champions Indoor Football League is entering its 8th season of play in the spring of 2022. In addition to today’s announcement of professional football coming to Topeka, the organization is also asking for help from its fans in naming the new team.
