The Salina Liberty continued their dominance in 2021 tonight with a 63-32 road beatdown of the Wyoming Mustangs.
With this win, Salina remains one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the league at 4-0, while the expansion Mustangs fall to 1-2.
The Liberty once again flew out to a big early lead, taking a 35-8 advantage into the halftime break.
Wyoming had their chances to keep things close in the first and second quarters, with third and goal on three separate occasions, but failed to score on any of them, turning the ball over on downs and throwing two interceptions at the goal line.
Any remaining doubts about Tyrie Adams were quickly put to bed tonight. The Liberty QB had an immaculate performance in the win, completing 17-20 passes for 244 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
If that wasn’t enough, Adams was also Salina’s leading rusher tonight, adding two more touchdowns on seven carries.
The receiving corps stepped up in a big way for the Liberty as well as three different players reeled in at least one touchdown from Adams including Juahem Byrd, who broke out for 73 yards and two touchdowns on three big receptions.
On defense the Liberty looked as sharp as ever, sacking quarterback Faustino Saucedo Jr. four times on the first three drives of the game for a loss of 26 yards.
Saucedo was taken out of the game for David Perkins, who performed well in the second half, but still came up well short of making this a competitive game.
With seven touchdowns from Adams, who now leads the league in that category and reigning CIF special teams player of the week Jimmy Allen converting a perfect 9/9 on extra points tonight, the Liberty walk out of Wyoming still looking like one of, if not the best team in the league this season.
Salina will have a big chance to back that up next Saturday when the team returns home for a rivalry game against their undefeated counterpart in the 3-0 Sioux City Bandits.
