BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Edge indoor football team kicked off the 2017 season with a home opening win, dominating the Western Michigan Ironmen with a score of 64-20.
Western Michigan came out hot and scored a touchdown within the first twelve seconds of the game. It all went downhill from there for the Ironmen as the Edge quickly answered with a touchdown of their own. In fact, the Ironmen didn’t score again until the second half, and by that time the game was all but in hand.
Bloomington starting quarterback, Caleb Holbrook, scored the Edge’s first touchdown of the season, but was far from finished. He diligently picked apart the Iron Men’s defense to the tune of six total touchdowns. Holbrook was an offensive machine and Western Michigan could not keep up.
The Edge defense also got in on the scoring in the first quarter, sacking the Ironmen’s quarterback in their own end zone for a safety. As soon as the Edge were back on offense, Holbrook threw a forty-yard touchdown to Marcus Lewis to extend the score. The first quarter ended with the Edge leading 23-7.
The Edge’s momentum continued in the second quarter with a touchdown in the first two minutes. Throughout the quarter the Edge defense stifled the Ironmen as it became apparent that the game was becoming more and more lopsided. The half ended with the Edge up 44-7.
The Ironmen attempted to regroup, but the edge always had an answer. Mid-way through the 3rd quarter Western Michigan was threatening to score, but the drive ended with an Edge interception. Holbrook wasted no time capitalizing on the mistake finding Darrelynn Dunn wide open in the endzone on the very next possession. The third quarter ended with the Edge ahead 50-14 on way to their 64-20 victory.
Not only was this the Edge’s home opener, but it was also Youth Appreciation Night. The Edge celebrated the children in the community by escorting teams onto the field in a “Parade of Champions” prior to the game, and at halftime. This event was just the beginning of all the fun that will be had at the Edge’s games.
