The Wichita Force has announced the signing of defensive back Carlos Cox for the 2017 season.
Cox (6’0, 178) spent last season with the João Pessoa Espectros of the Brazilian Confederation of Football. Cox earned defensive MVP honors with 5 interceptions and 5 return touchdowns, while leading the Espectros to the semifinals where they were defeated by Flamengo FA 25-10.
Cox was a standout defensive back and return specialist during his two years at Friends University. With the Falcons, Cox was a 2-time American Football Coaches Association NAIA All American and earned KCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors his senior season. That season, Cox had 72 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and had 142 return yards on 4 interceptions including 1 for a touchdown. Cox also averaged 30.8 yards on 10 kick-off returns, including a 98 yard return for a touchdown.
The Newark, New Jersey native was also a KCAC champion in both 100 and 200 meter races for the Falcons track team in 2013. Cox is the 7th defensive back signed ahead of February’s training camp. 8 players saw action at defensive back for the Force last season as several starters lost time due to significant injuries.
